I am a full time wedding photographer originally from Geneva, Switzerland, but now based in Johannesburg. My style of photography is a mixture of reportage / story telling with some directed portraits capturing emotion, love and connections between people.
I have been fortunate enough to photograph weddings all over South Africa and the world, and am honored to have had my work featured in many blogs and magazines.
Here is a Q&A interview that could answer some questions you might have about me…
Tell me more about you…
My name is Laura. I was born in Geneva Switzerland and then moved to Zim when I was 14. I finished high school in Harare before going off to university at Florida State University on an athletic scholarship. After 7 years of studying and training (I was an 800m runner) in Florida I moved back to Switzerland to train and ran professionally for a number of years. I would come to SA for warm weather and altitude training often during my running career and one year I just never left.
What did you study at university?
I studied psychology and photography. I think they make a great combination!
How did you get into wedding photography?
I knew I wanted to be a photographer, and weddings was actually the most obvious choice for me as I love everything about weddings! I love the emotion, and beauty of the day. There is nothing better.
You were originally known as Laura Jansen Photography. Tell us about your re-branding to Laura Leigh.
Laura Leigh was actually the nickname my Dad gave me as a little girl. It is the name my family call me. He passed away in 2009 and so I feel Laura Leigh is a very fitting name for my business.
Describe your style of photography.
I would say my style is very feminine and romantic. My number 1 goal is to create gorgeous pictures of the bride and groom together as well as capture all the emotion and candid moments that happen at a wedding. My style is basically a mixture of story telling / reportage with directed portraits, but nothing too posed. I love to keep things very natural!
